our process, philosophy & more

You didn't get engaged to spend your wedding day stiff and over-directed — you got engaged to celebrate the people you love and the life you're building together. I'm here to capture all of it exactly as it happens, in true to color images that actually look like you. If you're the kind of couple who wants to be present, not posed, you're in the right place.

ALL ABOUt maddie

I'm Maddie Heinen, a wedding photographer based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, with six years of experience and over 30 weddings behind my lens. My style lives where documentary meets traditional: a true to color, balanced approach that captures the candid in-between moments just as beautifully as your portraits. From Eau Claire to Milwaukee, Hudson to Minneapolis, I travel across Wisconsin and Minnesota to tell stories for couples who want their wedding day to feel real, warm, and completely their own.

Every couple I work with gets a fully personalized experience — from the fun questionnaire I send before we ever meet, to the complimentary engagement session we do together before your wedding day. Serving couples across Eau Claire, Baldwin, Hudson, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Duluth, I bring six years of experience and a genuine desire to get to know you, so when your wedding day comes, it feels less like working with a vendor and more like having a friend with a camera.

Five reasons

1. Timeless, true to color photos

2. Candids, portraits...the perfect balance

3. Feeling comfortable, feeling empowered

4. Focusing on what matters most

5. More than just a photographer

No altering those wedding colors you took months deciding on. No changing the hues and tones of your florals, venue, or foliage. You can look back at your wedding photos and remember your day exactly as it was, without the outdated editing trends.

I take a traditional approach to the stye of photos I take on your wedding day. My goal is to remain a fly on the wall so you can enjoy your day without major interference. After all, it's a wedding not a photoshoot. You will receive priceless photos of your family and friends sharing special moments, while still getting those gorgeous bride and groom portraits scheduled at some point in the day. A perfect balance.

I spend a lot of time getting to know you in the planning process in order to give you an experience where you feel truly comfortable and empowered in front of the camera. By sending out fun questionnaires, getting to know you at your complimentary engagement session, and spending time meeting in person or over Zoom, I get to provide support and a sister like experience during this special chapter in your life.

During every step of the way I encourage my clients to choose vendors and plan their day around what their wants and needs are. I offer timeline planning assistance to help your day flow smoothly, and discuss what it is that you truly want to get out of the day. Enjoy cocktail hour with friends and family? Maybe we can get some sweet candid family photos instead of posed portraits with a long list. It's about discovering what means the most to you, and applying that to your wedding day.

The last few years I've had to be selective about taking on new clients for regular sessions. Why? Because my wedding clients keep coming back for anniversary photos, maternity & newborn photos, family photos....Come to find out, I wasn't just their wedding photographer, I became their photographer for life. A lasting relationship is formed in which I get to cheer on countless clients in ALL seasons of life, not just the wedding season. Because of all the return clients, I simply don't have the full availability to take on every family, maternity, or newborn inquiry that comes way (That doesn't mean I don't take on new clients, I'm simply so blessed to have a full calendar from returning wedding clients!)
