BEHIND THE CAMERA & CONTACT INFO

Hey there! My name is Maddie and I'm the girl behind the camera.

I've loved photography for as long as I can remember. As a child I would run off with my mother's camera and take pictures of all sorts of things.... flowers, barn cats, our pet rabbit. Once middle school and high school came around, I moved on to "real photoshoots" getting dressed up and taking photos with my friends.

As an adult I found myself falling into the 9-5 job and putting my photography on the back burner as just a hobby. A few years into my banking career, I welcomed my daughter to the world.  During maternity leave I spent a lot of time focusing on my photography and just taking pictures again. Being home with her, working on my photography, it made me realize how desperately I did not want to go back to work. I realized there's more to life than the 9-5, and if something brings you joy, it's worth fighting for.

I wasn't sure how to make it work, running a business, raising a child, taking care of our home and our bills. So back to work I went. With each day, full of rushing and stress, it began to feel like my work and my family had a custody agreement over me. With work getting me all day, getting the best parts of me, and my family and passion for photography getting the leftover, grumpy, burnt out part of me. I knew something needed to change.

So in 2023, after a few years of juggling my business, a full time job, and my family, I took the leap and went full time in my passion for photos.

So it is with great pleasure that I introduce to you Spirited Sage Photography. Named after my very first model with my "big girl camera".... our family dog named Sage. (Hence the logo)

When I first started photography, I offered any and all types of sessions. But as I went on, I found my heart was truly in wedding photography. I absolutely love weddings. Each one is so unique, and always full of beautiful little details. Everyone is so full of joy, we're all dressed to the nines, it's truly a lifetime highlight...in real life.

When I got married almost a decade ago, we had a small wedding (Think backyard BBQ). It was well within budget, small and quaint. The people we loved came from all over, even out of state. Everyone pitched in, picking flowers from the ditch that morning, setting up tables, grilling food and pouring drinks. It was truly a group effort, and I am so humbled and full of appreciation for each and every person who took a part.

But still, I look back and think of how I'd do things differently. Sometimes I wish I had just bought the dream dress. I wish I had paid for gorgeous florals, or that we had a beautiful cake done by an actual baker. Perhaps that's why I love weddings so much. Even though I didn't get to have the dream wedding, I get to witness and be a part of countless beautiful days, over and over.

It brings me so much joy to see my clients have the experience I could only dream of. And to be a part of that big day is such an honor. Not only do I get to do what I love, I get to see balance in my home again. I get to spend time with the people I love, on my own schedule.

So, when your wedding day comes around, you'll likely find me steaming bridesmaid dresses, helping attach boutonnieres, or rounding up family for photos. After all, I'm not just your photographer...I'm your third wheel, your secondhand lady, basically your assistant for the day. So, if you're looking for someone who is all about keeping things chill and smooth sailing on your big day, look no further!
