Braving The Wedding Day Rain With Sabrina & Luis

It's every bride's fear: rain on your wedding day. And each day leading up to Sabrina & Luis's wedding day showed rain. Ouch. As I drove to the church, large rain drops covered my windshield. "Let it rain!" I thought. "Let the clouds open up and empty as much rain as they can before this wedding."

I pulled up to Notre Dame Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls, and the rain had finally lessened to a light sprinkle. But the worry of rain quickly left my mind when I saw the beauty of this church. Built in the late 1800's, this sandstone built church stands out like a diamond in the rough. The church grounds had little bits of beauty here and there, giving you a heavy feeling of something special yet to come, and a reminder of the special things God has already done.

I got there early (after all, early is on time, and on time is late), and the church was quiet and dark. Light gently filtered through the vibrant stained glass that adorned the perimeter of the church, illuminating the fine details on the walls and ceilings. I often hear other wedding photographers complain about photographing in Catholic churches...the poor lighting, the yellow tinted walls, the inability to use flash in some churches, etc. But honestly....I love it. Perhaps it's my Christian background, or maybe my love for all things fine art. But for one reason or another I just love being in the Catholic church.

When the groom and his crew walked in, the excitement started to build. Finally, our beautiful bride came through the doors. I always get a little emotional seeing the bride in her gown for the first time. They always look like absolute royalty. Every woman should feel like a queen at least once in her life.

They read their private vows back to back, being careful not to catch a glimpse of each other. Good job guys! AND you were juuuust quiet enough that I know no one, not even myself, could hear you. A truly special moment.

Next came the ceremony. And I must say, Deacon gave a beautiful talk about the story of Adam and Eve. He spoke of the importance of Adam and Eve together as equal partners, and why the rib, not any other bone. How Eve needs Adam and Adam needs Eve. A beautiful mindset to start a marriage with.

Next it was off to Irvine park. Now, there was a bit of a decision to be made here. As people filtered out of the church, the rain continued to tempt us. With a light mist just barely felt on the skin...could it be rain? Eh, let's give it a shot. So, off to Irvine Park and Zoo we went.

The rain held off just long enough. God is good! After getting some family photos and portraits, it was finally time to head off to the reception. Pulling up to Holiday Inn Eau Claire South yet again was like pulling up to an old friend's house. Hello again, lovely.

This hotel is an awesome spot for a wedding reception. With the reception hall entrance just to the left of the main hotel entrance, a large room for tables and dance floor, outdoor patio with fireplace, FANTASTIC catering....oh, let me tell you about....

Johnny's Italian Steakhouse. Yum. Honestly....SERIOUSLY...yum. I'd go for the salad alone, even. Beef tips and gravy, champagne chicken...yummy, yummy, yummy.

And the staff here, WOW. So kind and accommodating.

The speeches were sweet, funny, endearing. The dances were tear inducing. It was just a perfect night. I am infinitely happy for these two.

Congratulations Luis & Sabrina!
